In the Brickell neighborhood in downtown Miami, a new luxury-branded real estate project, Mercedes-Benz Places, is set to drive into Miami’s skyline. In trend with other residential buildings branded by luxury car manufacturers, including the car-forward Porsche Design Tower and the forthcoming Bentley Residences, Mercedes-Benz’s upcoming residential venture is set to bring a new mode of modern living to Miami.
The innovative 2.5 million-square-foot project is the car brand’s first residential project in North America, and one of the largest construction projects in Florida at the moment. the luxury car manufacter is also working on a residential highrise in Dubai expected to complete in late 2026.
Developed by JDS Development Group, the 67-story tower will be built at 1 Southside Park. SHoP Architects and Field Operations are the design leads on the project.
SHoP previously worked alongside JDS Development on a supertall in New York, Brooklyn Tower. The Miami tower features simple geometric bodies, interconnected to create a cube-shaped volume. Expected to become a dominant presence in the Miami skyline, the building’s design conveys the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy: Sensual Purity. “This philosophy, based on the duality of emotion and intelligence, consists of a hot and a cool pole. The cool aspect represents very much the tradition of geometric German long-live design originated in the Bauhaus. This crucial part of our brand was the inspiration for the architecture of this extraordinary new Mercedes-Benz Places landmark in Miami,” Mercedes-Benz chief design officer Gorden Wagener said in a press release.
Terraces and individual balconies wrap nearly every square inch of the building’s facade. Their reflective faces capture natural light and afford views toward Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. In renderings, technical silver dominates the building’s facade in a stimulating contrast with Mercedes-Benz’s emblematic black and white highlights. Inside, will be 791 residences in a range of layouts from studios to 3-bedroom apartments.
A luxury tower designed in partnership with a car manufacturer would be incomplete without a car park. Residents can expect access to EV charging stations, valet parking services, even a dedicated fleet of cars solely for building occupants. For those more inclined to other means of transport there will be a bicycle and scooter share. Other building amenities include fitness facilities, office space, retail shops, and a hotel.
The project’s foundation work is underway, and initial occupancy is expected to start in 2027.
