Jeffrey Beers, founder and CEO of Jeffrey Beers International (JBI), died on March 18 after a long battle with cancer, age 67. Beers is remembered for designing several of New York’s most vibrant restaurants, hotels, resorts, and residences. News of his passing was confirmed by JBI on social media, and later reported by Sleeper Magazine, Hospitality Design, and others.

Newly appointed JBI partners Tim Rooney, Nora Liu-Kanter, and Michael Pandolfi said in a statement shared with AN: “During this difficult time, our priority remains supporting Jeffrey’s family and the JBI team as we navigate this loss. We ask for your understanding, patience, and privacy as we work through this period of grief and transition.”

Beers was born in 1956 and studied architecture at RISD. There, he studied glassblowing under the renowned artist Dale Chihuly. Later, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and moved to Brazil to study with Oscar Niemeyer. Following his return to New York, Beers worked for I. M. Pei. Those closest to Beers note that it was these three masters—Chihuly, Niemeyer, and Pei—who left the greatest impact on the architect.

In 1986, age 30, Beers founded his own company, Jeffrey Beers International. Early on, he won commissions to design restaurants, hotels, resorts, and homes in New York and around the world. Some of JBI’s most well known clients include Jay-Z, Ritz Carlton, and signature restaurants for Gordon Ramsay, Daniel Boulud, and many more world-renowned chefs.

His creative genius and compassionate leadership have inspired all who had the privilege of working with him.”

On social media, JBI shared a heartfelt remembrance indebted to their founder:

Jeffrey Beers is survived by his wife, Connie, and sons, Justin and Oliver.
