The Cornell College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (AAP) will welcome several new leadership and faculty appointments this coming fall, including Milton S. F. Curry, who has been named the Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Engagement and Architecture Professor.

Curry previously worked as the Dean at the University of Southern California School of Architecture from 2017 to 2022, and Associate Professor and Associate Dean at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning from 2010 to 2017. This is not Curry’s first position at Cornell, Curry is an alumnus of Cornell, having earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the school in 1988, and he previously served as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Architecture from 1995 to 2010 and as the Director of the Cornell University Council for the Arts from 2002 to 2008.

Curry’s research and academic and professional work centers on architecture race theory, diversity in the architecture profession, and looking at the history and significance of the boutique hotel. In his new position, Curry hopes to further the AAP’s goals while continuing his own practices, which includes launching and directing the Black Cities of Americas Lab, a platform for researching environmental justice, reparations movements, urban design and redevelopment in America’s inner cities.

Curry is one of several additions to the staff at the AAP this coming year. Another new appointment is Sara Eddleman as the new Associate Dean for Administration, who has served as a Cornell administrator in three other departments across three divisions. Stuart S. Rosenthal has been appointed the Chair and Professor in the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate jointly managed with the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, coming from work in the economics of cities, ranging from housing and mortgage markets to land use and costs. Ding Fei has been named Assistant Professor of City and Regional Planning, having worked in the past as a development and economic geographer.

“At AAP, so much of what we do is reliant upon our community’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of academic excellence while advancing our shared mission as a college and creating new possibilities,” said AAP Dean J. Meejin Yoon in a press release. “I am deeply grateful for both the strong foundations upon which we will continue to build, as well as for this opportunity to work with such a talented, thoughtful, and inspiring group of colleagues over the months and years ahead.”

Curry officially joined the staff in the Department of Architecture on July 1, while the other appointments will join their departments throughout the remainder of the summer to begin working full force in the upcoming fall semester.
