July/August 2023

AN is excited to announce that the July/August 2023 issue of The Architect’s Newspaper is now available online. Our four featured projects center themes of affordable housing, and new methods, both technological and social, that are changing the way we live together. Marvel’s new Rockaway Village represents a $1 billion investment in affordable housing in the Far Rockaway, Queens; Rome Office enjoys seeing how new residents of their Tiger Island Senior Apartments in Louisiana are making the project feel like home; Waechter Architecture’s affordable Rockwood Village offers generous outdoors spaces for a  diverse community outside Portland; and sister design duo French 2D has debuted a new cohousing concept for collective living in Malden, Massachusetts. Additionally, our July/August issue includes our annual Glass Focus section. Beyond framing views, glass and glazing material systems are constantly evolving to push the limits of structural performance, sustainability, and above all design creativity. This section highlights the best and brightest glass-forward projects. Read further to learn more about other highlights in architecture news and culture, including one architect’s story of finding his path while working at Home Depot, a preview of the gleaming new Buffalo AKG museum by OMA, and centennial retrospectives on two design world heavy-hitters, artist Ellsworth Kelly and modern architect Harry Seidler.

Also included:

  • Studio Visit: Studio Ma
  • Paul Preissner’s essay, “How Framing Works,” from Park Books’ new publication, American Framing
  • Canada’s newest museum, the Montreal Insectarium by Kuehn Malvezzi
  • And much more.
