May 2023
AN is excited to share the digital version of our May 2023 issue with you. This is our annual facades Focus section, so we’ve gathered a bevy of products to consider in addition to five case studies which gather a wide range of subjects. Three feature articles work on ecological themes: Kelly Alvarez Doran talks through reducing carbon emissions, Allyn West ruminates on photographs of Louisiana by Virginia Hanusik, and Aaron Seward attends the opening of Birdsong Brackenridge in San Antonio. The issue also includes a deep dive into the current plight of Penn Station and Mimi Zeiger’s review of Michael Maltzan Architecture’s work for the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Additionally, check out photos of a new CLT pavilion designed by students at Rice University. On the back page, read AN executive editor Jack Murphy’s chat with the curators of the U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, which opens to the public tomorrow.
Also included:
- Studio Visit: Duvall Decker
- Lars Lerup reviews More City than Water: A Houston Flood Atlas, edited by Lacy M. Johnson and Cheryl Beckett
- Dan Jonas-Roche reviews The Architecture of Disability: Buildings, Cities, and Landscapes beyond Access by David Gissen
- And much more.
