June 2023
AN is excited to share the digital version of our June 2023 issue with you. This new issue includes our Focus section on Windows, Walls and Doors. Careful consideration of a building’s windows, walls and doors can have huge impacts on sustainability goals as well as uplift any design scheme, and this section offers case studies showcasing innovative new products and detailing. Additionally, this new issue offers three features centered on creating spaces of inclusion: Stoss Landscape Urbanism and MPdL Studio reimagine new public terrain in Dallas that grapples with a complex history; Moody Nolan reflects on three decades of collaboration with historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs); and critic Anjulie Rao unpacks architecture education’s approach to Professional Practice. Read further to learn more about Chicago’s plan for revitalizing vacant downtown corridors with office-to-residential conversions, and take a closer look into labor relations between student workers and the University of Michigan’s Taubman College and their strike for securing better pay. The issue closes with After Gentrification, a Comment by Rice University’s Director of the Present/Future program, Albert Pope, that asks how architects can work with American suburban sprawl.
